Podcast Launched For Volunteers Week

1 June 2023

Today sees the launch of Isle of Wight Volunteer Stories – A podcast celebrating the work of volunteers across the Island.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the IOW. Without them, many charities, support groups and other voluntary organisations would not be able to run as effectively, offer services and help to some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Community Action IW supports the voluntary sector on the Island as a whole and the IW Volunteer Centre helps to connect those who want to volunteer with those who need volunteers, encouraging good practice and collaboration and promoting the value of volunteering and the benefits to those who choose to volunteer.

Volunteers Week takes place every year between 1st – 7th June and is all about showing appreciation to volunteers. Thousands of charities and organisations across the country will be recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK and we would like to add our voice to that chorus, saying Thank you to all of you who give up your time and skills to help our Island.

With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’ we hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them. Working with the National Trust, we are launching a new podcast series called Isle of Wight Volunteer Stories, with one episode being released each day during Volunteers Week. After that we will release further stories from volunteers across the Island, on a weekly basis. We hope that these stories will inspire others to think about bringing some element of volunteering into their lives.

In the first episode, we hear from Dee Makin, the Volunteer Manager for the National Trust IW. She talks about the range of volunteering opportunities on offer, training and support and so on. Each day this week we will publish a new episode starting with interviews of 6 National Trust Volunteers. After that we will publish one episode a week, with volunteers from a whole range of organisations.

Please subscribe so that you don’t miss any of them!
