Microvolunteering

What is microvolunteering?

Microvolunteering can be described as ‘bite-sized, on-demand, no commitment actions that benefit a worthy cause’.  It describes a task done by a volunteer(s) without payment in small increments of time, this can be done either online or offline.

Who can do it?

Literally anyone! The benefit of microvolunteering is that there are many different opportunities allowing a wide range of people to join in. For example, it can be done at home, at the office during your lunch break, at weekends, outside with groups of people, the list is endless…

What does it involve?

The range of activities are endless, it all depends on what you want to do. Some examples of existing successful microvolunteering activities are:

  • Blogging for a cause
  • E-mentoring
  • Transcribing documents
  • Micro-reporting about communities
  • Joining a rota for a charity shop, food bank, library etc
  • Book sharing
  • Contributing knowledge and advice
  • Helping sell raffle tickets for a favourite charity
  • Sharing a cause on social media
