Scouts, one of the largest youth organisations on the Isle of Wight, have appointed a new County Youth Commissioner and two deputies.
Following an open competition and interview Becca Steen from 7th Newport Scout Group has been appointed County Youth Commissioner. Becca said: “I’m looking forward to working closely with our young people and adult volunteers across the Island. Our role as Youth Commissioners is to ensure that the Scouting programme and activities on the Island are shaped by young people.”
The two Deputy Youth Commissioners are Lotty Green from Smugglers Scout Network (an Island wide network) and Hannah Flowers from Xtreme Explorer Scout Unit (based in Newport).

Our new Youth Commissioners are volunteers responsible for driving youth shaped Scouting on the Island. Youth Commissioners must be aged between 18 and 25 when they’re appointed. They will support the Islands circa 400 adult volunteers to embed young people’s ideas and decisions into local Scouting. They will play a key role in the leadership and management of Scouting on the Isle of Wight.
Dave Simpson, County Commissioner for Isle of Wight Scouts said: “Ensuring that our programmes are ‘youth shaped’ is important. I want to thank Connor Jones for his time as County Youth Commissioner which has seen us through the 2018 World Scout Jamboree and the COVID pandemic. Becky, Lotty and Hannah will be a strong team and will build on Connor’s excellent work across the County.”
