Island Railway Voices

14 October 2021

The Island Railway Voices project are looking for older people on the Isle of Wight to get involved in an exciting new heritage project all about Island railways and trains.

‘Island Railway Voices’ is a project funded by Arts Council England and is being coordinated by Lisa Kerley on behalf of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

As part of the project Lisa can offer a reminiscence session on theme of the Island railway for any community groups that support older people.

Reminiscence is an enjoyable and inclusive way of recollecting memories of the past and the session will include the opportunity to handle museum objects from the collections of the Isle of Wight steam railway.

We hope that the reminiscence session will evoke lots of memories of what train travel was like in the past and how it has changed over time.

The session lasts 1 hour – 1 hour and a half depending on the needs of the group and can be offered in the community at your meeting place. The sessions are free of charge.

If you are someone who runs a group, or is a member of a group who might enjoy the chance to reminiscence on this subject please contact Lisa using the information below.

There is also the opportunity to volunteer for this project. Please see here: Island Railway Voices Project Volunteer for Isle of Wight Steam Railway | Isle of Wight Volunteer Centre (iwvolunteer.org)
