Become a Trustee for Independent Arts

8 October 2021

Independent Arts’ board of trustees oversees the charity’s activities and development, providing essential governance and reporting annually to the Charity Commission and Companies House.

The trustees meet six times a year to review the actitivites of the charity, to monitor finances and assess risks. The day-to-day operational delivery is delegated through our Chief Executive, who manages the staff team, freelance arts practitioners, other key suppliers and volunteers.

A good trustee board is diverse, inclusive and collaborative with a range of skills necessary to run a charity – and is replenished regularly to keep it fresh!

Seeking new trustees

We are looking to appoint up to three new trustees in January 2022.

We are keen to hear from people who feel they could offer the charity their time and skills, particularly with professional experience in any of these areas:

  • finance/accounting (ideally charity accounts)
  • human resources/employment law
  • mental health services
  • education
  • care sector

This is an unpaid, voluntary role, which takes a variable amount of time but is crucial to the charity’s continued success. There is a minimum commitment of preparing for and attending trustee meetings every other month, with potential ad hoc engagements outside of this, depending on your availability and skill set. Trustee meetings normally last around 1.5 hours and are held in Newport from 5pm (subject to social distancing regulations).

As an island charity it is vital that trustees live on the Isle of Wight.
