Carisbrooke Castle Museum is the oldest Museum on the Isle of Wight. It was established in 1898 by HRH Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter, in memory of her late husband, Prince Henry of Battenberg. It is believed to be the only public museum in the UK founded by a member of the Royal Family. Founded as a ‘treasury of objects illustrating the history of the island’, the Museum now cares for over 37,000 items connected with Isle of Wight history.
Carisbrooke Castle Museum Trust was originally established to run the museum by HRH Princess Beatrice shortly before her death in 1944. This was superseded by a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), established in 2020.

For more information about the Museum please visit our website carisbrookecastlemuseum.org.uk

You would be joining that new team at an exciting time as we develop our plans for the future in this historic Castle setting. ▪ Provide a framework of plans and policies to define the Museum’s purpose, and for
monitoring achievement of its objectives
▪ Act as an advocate of the Museum within the community
▪ Provide for the safety, security and preservation of the collections
▪ Ensure that the Museum serves the public.

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee, please submit your CV and a short supporting statement which outlines why you would like to join the Board and what you feel you have to offer the Museum moving forward.
