Volunteer work buddies - Horticulture

Care in the Garden is a CIC - a not for profit organisation based at Palmers Brook Community Nursery, Wootton. We offer a variety of supported work-based opportunities, primarily to people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and early-onset dementia. .

If you have a passion for plants and have a few hours to spare each week, you could help to give someone real purpose in life by acting as their work buddy.

We are currently seeking volunteers for our work-buddy scheme. We believe it is a human right that everyone should be offered the opportunity to have a full and meaningful life. Some people need extra help and support to achieve this, which is where our work-buddy scheme comes in. Work buddies can support and encourage individuals to learn new skills, be part of a team, and reach their full potential.”

We grow most of the plants that we sell at the nursery and our clients learn a variety of skills related to growing plants and plant care. We also make up hanging baskets and planters which we sell at the nursery and supply to business customers and other organisations across the Island.

Giving just four hours a week to this innovative, friendly community venture would make a real difference to the people Care In The Garden supports and our volunteers find it very rewarding experience too.

We are looking for friendly, approachable, patient people with good senses of humour who have a skill or a passion to share with others! Ideally you would be over 18 and a DBS check would be required.

Plant knowledge or an interest in plants would be helpful. If you feel that you can work with our supported workers to help them work safely and develop new skills, then this may be the volunteering role for you.
