Volunteer Shop Assistant – Godshill Post Office

Community Action Isle of Wight is an Isle of Wight charity, based in Newport at The Riverside Centre. We provide charitable services to a wide variety of community and voluntary groups across the island. In 2011, when Godshill village shop and post office closed we worked with the local community, parish council and Post Office Ltd to re-open this vital, rural service. We now operate Post Office outreach services to rural communities in Brading, Wootton and more permanently in Totland.

The shop in Godshill serves both the local community and tourists alike during the busy summer months, with Godshill being a key destination on coach party itineraries.

We are looking for a volunteer to work flexibly two afternoons a week during the season from May to September, ideally Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are looking for someone with some retail or customer service experience, Post Office experience would be a bonus, but is not essential.

Your responsibilities will include serving customers, maintaining the presentation of the shop and replenishing shelves. You may also be asked to receive deliveries and rotate stock. Experience operating a till and handling cash is also desirable.

The Godshill Shop and Post Office is a valued community asset and this role would suit a cheerful, patient individual who enjoys helping others.  You will work alongside our shop manager, and you may be asked to provide support at other times. Full training will be given.

Skills
