Independent Arts is a registered charity (no. 297474) which aims to change lives through arts. Established in 1987, operating solely on the Isle of Wight, we aim to provide a wide range of arts-based activity to the lonely, the vulnerable and the most isolated – of any age from age 5 to 105, in a variety of settings. We employ a small staff team and engage arts practitioners from all genres as experts in their field, to deliver excellent quality activities. Essential to everything we do are volunteers. See below how you may be able to help deliver our mission.
Events volunteer role profile
Independent Arts are lucky enough to be supported by, and involved with, many island events throughout the year. Taking part in these events not only raises valuable funds to support vulnerable and isolated island residents, but also raises our profile and increases the charities visibility across the island.
We are always grateful for support with all things event, from helping to host any stand we might have, or welcoming the public to the event as a whole. It is essential for this role that you are comfortable chatting to members of the public. We’ll also ask you to be able to pass on information about what Independent Arts do, or better still, your own experiences with Independent Arts, handing out flyers or information about our work, or collecting donations!
Skills
We are looking for people who:
- Have a friendly, welcoming and approachable manner
- Be smiley, chatty and helpful towards members of the public
- Are confident talking about the work of Independent Arts
- Can work effectively in a team
- Happy working independently under direction
We can provide a branded t-shirt for all event volunteers, and you will receive a briefing document and be invited to a volunteer briefing via zoom prior to any event you support us at. We won’t ask you to do anything you’re not comfortable with, and all volunteering is split into manageable shifts. Though we are a small charity and donations are always gratefully received, we also won’t ask you to shake collection tins or stop people to ask for donations!
This role will report to the Community Fundraiser or the Independent Arts duty manager at the event.
