At Rodger and Steve’s Place in Ryde, part of Men Only IOW, we provide a warm, safe space where men facing isolation, mental health challenges, and other personal difficulties can find understanding, support, and encouragement. We are currently seeking compassionate individuals to join us as Peer Support Volunteers.
The Role: Peer Support Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Drawing on their own lived experiences of mental health challenges, volunteers provide empathy, guidance, and motivation to those who need it most. This vital role is about creating connections, hopefully building resilience, and empowering men on their recovery journeys.
What You'll Do: Provide one-to-one or group peer support in a safe and understanding environment. Share personal experiences to reassure and validate others without overshadowing their unique situations. Offer practical guidance, including supporting service users with form filling or calls to other services. Motivate and support service users throughout their time with Men Only IOW. What We Offer: A comprehensive training programme covering mental health first aid, safeguarding, communication skills, and more.
Ongoing supervision, support, and access to additional development opportunities. A chance to be part of a welcoming, driven community making a real difference on the Isle of Wight.
Your Commitment:
Volunteers should be available for at least two sessions per week, with flexible options between Monday and Friday (9 a.m. and 4 p.m.). We deeply value the dedication of our volunteers and ask that anyone stepping into a volunteer role treat their commitment with the same level of professionalism as they would a paid position. Consistency and reliability are essential, as our work relies heavily on volunteers being present when they’ve agreed to be. Your contribution makes a significant impact, and we depend on your dedication to fulfilling our shared goals.
Why This Matters: Volunteering for Men Only is a great opportunity.
By joining us, you will:
- Have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of men across our community and the Isle of Wight.
- You will have the opportunity to create connection and hope for someone who may feel that they will never be able to be a part of their community.
- You will have the opportunity to be a turning point for someone facing isolation, depression, or other struggles.
- You will have endless access to opportunities for good.
How to Get Involved:
We invite you to submit a brief cover letter detailing your experience and availability.
If you would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us at admin@menonlyiow.co.uk or come and see us for an informal chat.
