Home Visiting Volunteer

Are you looking for something rewarding to do with your spare time?

Here at Home-Start IOW we are busier than ever before. To help us with our mission to be there for every parent who needs us, we are looking for volunteers in your area to support parents who may be struggling with the challenges of family life. Because childhood can’t wait.

How much time do I need to give?

Our volunteers commit to offering a couple of hours a week

What does it involve?

Visiting a family at home to give practical and emotional support. By visiting regularly our volunteers build up a relationship with parents and their children. Your time with the family could include:

·         Providing friendship and a listening ear.

·         Supporting them to get out and about.

·         Fun activities with children.

What would I get out of volunteering for Home-Start?

Our volunteers find the time they spend with families very rewarding as they make such a positive difference to the lives of the parents and children they support.

Skills

Do I need any special skills or experience?

Non-judgemental with an understanding of the challenges of family life, kind and compassionate, great organisational skills, practical, enthusiastic. Most Volunteers have parenting or caring experience, for everything else, full training is provided. All home visiting volunteers are subject to an enhanced DBS check and references are required.
