Appley Tower is a historical landmark recently redeveloped by Natural Enterprise with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help maintain the tower as an engaging and safe visitor attraction.
Role Overview:
As an Appley Tower volunteer, you will play a crucial role in welcoming visitors, sharing information about the tower’s history and recent developments, and ensuring a positive experience for all guests.
Volunteers will manage visitor flow, monitor safety, and assist with operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Visitor Engagement: Greet visitors warmly, provide information about the tower’s history and recent redevelopment, and distribute trail leaflets and pamphlets.
Safety Monitoring: Oversee visitor numbers using up-down counters, ensuring that floor capacities are not exceeded, particularly in the tight spaces at the top of the tower.
Operational Duties: Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing the building and checking that all areas are clear of visitors at the end of each shift.
General Maintenance: Help maintain the tower’s cleanliness by sweeping steps and checking for hazards, and ensure that promotional materials are readily available for visitors.
Documentation: Record visitor numbers and any incidents or suggestions in the daily log, contributing to the smooth operation of the tower.
Shifts: Volunteers are scheduled in shifts from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a brief handover period between shifts. Ideally, two volunteers are present during each shift to ensure a seamless operation, though the role can be managed individually if necessary.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the preservation and promotion of a beloved community landmark. If you are enthusiastic about local heritage and enjoy engaging with the public, we would love to have you on board!
